What can I say?! Ree-reading Peter Pan... Again :) its my number one favourite story in the world!
My first favourite movie was Disney's Peter Pan, and even as a two year old I handed out parts for my family, casting myself as Peter, my father as Tink and my mother as the crocodile ^^ I'm really a nice person, I promise, and so is my mom FYI.
It's strange I guess, to love something so much. I mean I was practically in love with Jeremy Sumpter after the movie came out in 2003. I still adore the movie, even though I'm more keen on Jason Isaacs these days, as far as looks go ;)
I just can't get over the timelessness of Peter Pan! I'm aware that there are older stories and fairytales just as important and that stand the test of time equally well, and also that tastes vary. But to me it's been an incredibly important part of my childhood, and even my family and closest fiends would be oblivious to just how much it's influenced me.
Neverland opened the door to magic and things you're only supposed to dream of when you're little.
And in all honesty I have to confess that it still hurts a little to have grown up and understood that such things just aren't possible.
I actually used to, half a lifetime ago, sit by my window and auidibly wish that Peter would come and take me to Neverland. I even feel a little silly writing that down now. It is non the less true.
But I guess it's a very universal, timeless thing... Not wanting to grow up, becuase I constantly hear people my age, both friends and strangers, saying they wished they were kids again, pointing out that things were so much easier and better when you were carefree and curious and testing your limits.
There was actually a twinge of sadness on my eighteenth birthday, becuase even though you can't measure the stages of your life that way, as it has more to do with maturity than the exact date of your birth, I was officially a grown up.
I still can't read or hear the phrase "All children grow up, except one", without completely tearing up.
And as my friend Madeleine once very eloquently put it; "What didnt Stephen Spielberg get about the 'boy that never grew up'"?!

Sorry for this completely uneccessary journal. I've been up all night reading....
Love you J.M.Barrie for the influence you've had on my childhood :)
Oh, and Hook is still great movie ^^
